TBILISI, DFWatch–For the ninth consecutive year, the United Nations General Assembly on June 7 passed a resolution calling for the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the wars in Georgia in the early 1990s.

Abkhazia shelves proposal to allow sale of real estate to foreigners

sukhumiTBILISI, DFWatch–The Georgian breakaway region Abkhazia has decided not to lift a ban on selling real estate to foreigners.

The de facto parliament in Sukhumi has rejected a draft law that would have lifted the ban, which is written into the constitution.

TBILISI, DFWatch–Today, 20 years have passed since the fall of Sukhumi. The war in Abkhazia in 1992-93 ended after 13 months and 13 days.
