TBILISI, DFWatch–Tbilisi State University (TSU) has scheduled the selection of a new rector for April 20.
Vladimer Papava resigned as rector after a student rebellion and a nearly week-long sit-in.
The TSU’s academic council decided on Monday that the registration of candidates will take place from April 5 to April 14 and the election board will hold a ballot on April 20. Within 24 hours after the polls close 18:00 that day, the results will be announced.
The election board consists of academic staff at TSU with a PhD or corresponding scientific degree. Each of the board members can vote for one candidate. If two candidates receive an equal number of votes, a repeat election will be held within five days.
TSU will hold the election by a special election commission created based on a rector’s decree.
Papava is acting rector until May 1, when the new rector will take over.
