TBILISI, DFWatch–Russian border guards on Friday detained a 17-year-old Georgian near the border with South Ossetia.

The incident took place in the village Bershueti.

The detainee, Joni Gogichaishvili from the village Sobisi, was taken to the detention facility in Tskhinvali.

Journalists quoted his sister Natia Gogichaishvili, who said he left Sobisi on September 16 and was headed for the school in Bershueti but never showed up. When his family tried to call his number, Russians answered the phone.

“They told me that my brother was with them,” she said, adding that the soldiers didn’t allow her to talk to her brother. When she tried to call again the phone was switched off.

Gogichaishvili is accused of violating the border.

His schoolmates say that after the lessons were finished they went to the Sameba church on the edge of the village Bershueti, the place where he was detained.

The State Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are working to get him released soon.
