
TBILISI, June 2 – Georgian police have arrested a man accused of shooting a woman dead with a hunting rifle in Senaki, a town in western Georgia.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said officers from the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department detained one person on suspicion of intentional murder, Interpressnews reports. The suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting, and the weapon allegedly used in the crime was seized as evidence.
According to the ministry, the shooting happened in one of the villages of Senaki municipality. Investigators say the suspect and the victim knew each other and had an argument before the man allegedly fired a hunting rifle, fatally wounding the woman.
The suspect then fled the scene, but police said he was caught soon afterward as a result of operational and investigative measures.
The case is being investigated as intentional murder and carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
According to Interpressnews, the accused man was the murdered woman’s neighbor.
