TBILISI, July 6 – A man has been arrested in Tbilisi after two people were wounded in a shooting during a dispute in the Vashlijvari district, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Sunday.

The incident happened on Saturday in Vashlijvari, a district in the northwest of the Georgian capital, and was initially reported by journalist Dea Mamiseishvili, who posted a video of the incident on Facebook.

According to the ministry, a verbal argument between several people began “on domestic grounds” and then turned into a physical confrontation. During the clash, one person allegedly opened fire with a firearm and wounded two people.

The injured were taken to a clinic. The ministry said their lives are not in danger.

Police officers from the Vake-Saburtalo main division of the Tbilisi Police Department arrested one person shortly after the incident. The ministry said the suspect was detained “on a hot trail,” meaning soon after the alleged crime, following operational and investigative work.

The suspect is accused of intentionally causing serious harm to the health of two people, as well as illegal purchase, storage and carrying of a weapon.

The charges involved carry a possible prison sentence of up to 13 years.
