Kutaisi knife attack leaves one man dead

TBILISI, July 6 – A man has been arrested in western Georgia after allegedly killing his neighbor during a domestic dispute in Kutaisi, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Sunday.

According to the ministry, officers from the Imereti Police Department and the Patrol Police Department detained a man who has been convicted multiple times in the past. He is accused of intentional murder.

Investigators say the incident happened in Kutaisi, Georgia’s second-largest city, during an argument “on domestic grounds.” The ministry said the accused man wounded a male neighbor with a knife and then fled the scene.

The wounded man was taken to a medical facility, but died shortly after being brought there, according to the ministry.

Police said the suspect was detained soon after the incident as a result of operational and investigative measures.

The investigation is being conducted on the basis of an article of the criminal code which covers intentional murder and carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
