TBILISI, DFWatch–Godfather of the government coalition in Georgia, financier Bidzina Ivanishvili, said in a newspaper interview this weekend that he doesn’t think the National Movement party will ever be able to get back in power.

The National Movement tops ruled Georgia for almost a decade, but have been purged from many official positions after losing the parliamentary election in 2012, and seen many former officials people put away for crimes committed while in office.

But the party and its leader, the exiled Mikheil Saakashvili, are on a fierce media battle to prove that the new government is a failure and stir unrest around the country.

Ivanishvil said in an interview with Kviris Palitra that there is no doubt that UNM desires to ‘organize disorder.’

“We plan to analyze their two-year propaganda,” he said, adding that this analysis will show how they are attempting to provide to people, using false information, that the economy is collapsing and crime is increasing.

In earlier interviews, Ivanishvili said that he wants to make a TV series about the National Movement’s nine years in power. He believes that even if UNM organizes disorder, they have no chance to come back into government.

“The Georgian people are not so foolish as they believe they are,” he said.

After the surprise loss in 2012, many of Saakashvili’s associates ran away and have been living abroad with criminal charges looming. The reforms during their rule have become mostly discredited among the Georgian population, with the police reforms and reduction in crime as the only things that still stand up.

Recently, several of his top people found new jobs in the Kiev government, and even Saakashvili himself became an adviser to President Poroshenko a few days ago.

“Now they found asylum in Ukraine, but let us wish them events develop in a better way there,” Ivanishvili told Kviris Palitra.
