TBILISI, DFWatch–About 80 prisoners at the women’s prison in Rustavi have gone on hunger strike demanding to get their sentences reduced.

According to the administration of prison No 5 in Rustavi, 20 km away from the capital, the prisoners have no complaints against the prison, but they think they have inadequate sentences and demand to get their cases reviewed.

“Butchers got sentences of three years, while we are 7-8 years in prison and still have to serve more,” Nino Kobakhidze, one of the prisoners told Rustavi 2.

She added that those who cannot go on hunger strike have expressed solidarity with them and refuse to eat bread. “Our sentences are without end, while we haven’t done anything serious. We feel really bad.”

The prison administration informs that they are monitoring the health condition of the prisoners on hunger strike.
