TBILISI, January 25 – Two men were shot and killed inside a car Saturday evening in the village of Mukhrani, just north of Georgia’s capital, in what authorities are treating as a double homicide.
Georgia’s Interior Ministry confirmed that both victims were killed at the scene and said an investigation has been launched under articles of the criminal code covering premeditated murder and illegal possession or use of firearms.
Later the same evening, additional details emerged from local sources. According to information cited by the Georgian online news outlet Ambebi, the two victims were residents of the village and were inside a vehicle when they were shot multiple times. Both were male.
Local residents identified the men as Zurab Sanamashvili and Gia Kilardzhiani. One of the men was reported to be in his early forties, while the other was slightly older. According to locals, one of the victims had previously worked abroad and may have used a different surname while overseas.
Unconfirmed information cited by Interpressnews suggests the killing may be linked to a past dispute and may have been driven by revenge.
Mukhrani is a village located near Georgia’s main east-west highway and is within commuting distance of Tbilisi.
