Traffic restored on Georgia’s main route to Russia

(Interpressnews.)

TBILISI, January 29 – Traffic has been restored on Georgia’s main highway linking the capital with the Russian border, after a temporary closure caused by a road accident.

The Roads Department said vehicle movement has resumed on the Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Larsi road at the 31st kilometer, near the Zhinvali–Ananuri section.

The road was closed on January 28 following a traffic accident, which led authorities to halt all types of vehicle movement on that stretch for safety reasons. It remained closed overnight but was reopened the following morning.

The Mtskheta–Stepantsminda–Larsi highway is classified as an international highway and is one of Georgia’s most important transport corridors. It serves as Georgia’s only direct land route to Russia and is a key artery for passenger travel and freight transport.
