TBILISI, July 24 – Georgia sharply increased electricity imports in the first half of 2026, with Russia and Turkey together supplying more than two thirds of the imported power, BPN reported Friday, citing data from Georgia’s National Statistics Office.
From January through June, Georgia imported electricity worth USD 39.615 million. In the same period last year, imports stood at USD 25.325 million. That means the value of electricity imports rose by 56 percent year-on-year.
The figures show that Georgia bought electricity from four neighboring or nearby countries during the first six months of 2026: Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Turkey was the largest supplier, with electricity imports worth USD 13.624 million, or 34.4 percent of the total.
Russia was close behind, supplying USD 12.954 million worth of electricity, or 32.7 percent of Georgia’s total electricity imports.
Together, Turkey and Russia accounted for 67.1 percent of Georgia’s imported electricity in the first half of the year.
Azerbaijan was the third-largest supplier, with USD 9.011 million in electricity exports to Georgia, making up 22.7 percent of the total. Armenia supplied USD 4.026 million worth of electricity, or 10.2 percent.
