Man accused of murdering father and burying body

TBILISI, July 24 – Georgian police have arrested a man in the eastern region of Kakheti after he allegedly killed his father with a blunt object and buried the body in the yard of their home.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the arrest on Friday. It said officers from the Kakheti Police Department detained the suspect on charges of intentional murder of a family member under aggravating circumstances, Interpressnews reported.

According to investigators, the killing followed a verbal argument between the son and his father. The ministry said the suspect used a blunt object to injure his father, who died at the scene.

Investigators also say the suspect later buried the body in the yard of the residential house in an attempt to cover up the crime.

Police said they detained the suspect quickly after operational and investigative work. The alleged weapon used in the killing was seized as evidence.

The investigation is carried out under an article of the criminal code violations of which can lead to up to 20 years in prison or a life sentence.
