TBILISI, DFWatch–The Republican cabinet members will leave their posts in August, party leader Khatuna Samnidze said in an interview on Friday.
The Republicans are part of the ruling Georgian Dream coalition, but recently decided to run on an independent ticket in parliament election scheduled for October 8.
Samnidze told newspaper Versia that the party has not yet decided whether its cabinet members will be up for election.
She said no changes are expected before NATO’s Warsaw summit in July.
“The prime minister said he is ready for such cooperation. I wouldn’t believe that the prime minister would change a decision he made a week ago and announced together with the speaker of parliament,” she said, adding that the party is working on putting together the election list and soon together with the ministers from the party they will decide if they will make it on to the list.
“When the party begins its election campaign, ministers will make the appropriate decisions. In fact, our ministers will resign in August,” she said.
March 31, the Republican Party declared that they plan to run in the parliament election independently, but the ministers from the party said they do not plan to resign before the election.
Later, the prime minister met with Davit Usupashvili, the parliament speaker from the Republican Party. After the meeting he said that the Georgian Dream, the party in the coalition with the same name, will also run independently in the election. He said that it is a quite normal process and that the three ministers from the Republican Party will continue their work as ordinary in the cabinet.
