TBILISI, DFWatch–The EU Monitoring Mission to Georgia (EUMM), which was recently prolonged for two more years, has a new head.

Kęstutis Jankauskas replaces Toivo Klaar, who was appointed in October 2013.

According to an announcement sent out by EUMM, Jankauskas has more than 20 years of experience in the Lithuanian diplomatic service.

EUMM is a mission of military observers established by the European Union in the wake of the Russia-Georgia war in 2008. It is the only international observer mission in Georgia’s conflict zones after both the UN and the OSCE ended their missions in 2009.
