Mother swept away trying to save child from drowning

TBILISI, August 6 – A young child has died and the child’s mother remains missing after both were swept away by the Khobistskali River in Georgia.

The accident happened in Khobi municipality, in western Georgia.

The child’s body was recovered by a local resident, while search and rescue teams were still looking for the mother when Interpressnews reported the tragedy at noon Thursday.

According to initial information, the currents first carried the child away. The mother then entered the river in an attempt to save her child, but was also swept away.

Police officers, emergency management crews and ambulance teams were deployed to the scene.
