
TBILISI, March 28 – Georgian police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal assault in the mountainous Dusheti municipality, after what the Interior Ministry described as a domestic dispute turned deadly.
The ministry said officers from the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Police Department’s Dusheti district division detained a 39 year old suspect on suspicion of intentional murder. According to the statement, the suspect has a prior conviction.
Investigators say the incident happened in Dusheti municipality during a confrontation on what the ministry called “domestic grounds.” According to the official account, the suspect physically assaulted a 72 year old man. The victim died at the scene from the injuries he received, the ministry said.
Police said the suspect was arrested shortly after the crime in a hot pursuit arrest.
The case is being investigated under an article of the Criminal Code that covers intentional murder, for an offense that carries a possible sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
