
TBILISI, June 27 – Heavy rain caused flooding in Senaki municipality in western Georgia on Saturday, damaging homes, streets, farmland and local infrastructure.
According to Senaki City Hall, floodwater affected part of the local population and damaged municipal infrastructure after intense rainfall hit the area, Interpressnews reported.
Several streets were flooded. Water also entered the first floors and yards of residential houses on several streets. Arable land was flooded as well.
The municipality said internal dirt roads in administrative units were damaged, along with parts of bridges.
Local authorities said all relevant municipal services were mobilized from the first minutes of the disaster and were working in emergency mode to deal with the damage.
Emergency Management Service crews were working in problem areas, according to the municipality.
Senaki City Hall said it was responding immediately to reports received from residents and that local self-government representatives were present at affected sites.
Senaki is a city in the western Samegrelo region of Georgia.
