TBILISI, DFWatch–Georgian Lasha Shavdatuashvili Thursday won gold in the European Judo Championship in Budapest.

This is Georgia’s second gold in this year’s championship. The first one was won by Amiran Papinashvili.

Before Thursday’s win, 21 year old Shavdatuashvili was already an Olympic champion in judo. Shavdatuashvili’s was the only gold medal Georgia won in the London Olympics. He fought in the 66 kg category against a Hungarian.

In the Budapest final, Shavdatuashvili defeated Khan Magomedov Kamal, who represented Russia, in men’s 66 kg category. Earlier, he defeated Shikhalizada Nijat of Azerbaijan, Zambori Bence, Hungary; Lazea Remus Mircea, Romania and Lefevere Jasper of Belgium.

Papinashvili defeated Chammartin Ludovic of Switzerland in men’s 60 kg category in the final. Before, he competed against Mckenziw Ashley of UK, Petrikov Pavel of Czech Republic and Shirinli Vugar of Azerbaijan.
