TBILISI, DFWatch – Georgia took seven medals as the London Olympics drew to an end; one in Judo and six medals in wrestling. 35 Georgian athletes competed in this year’s Olympics, winning one gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

Lasha Shavdatuashvili, a 20 year old sportsman, was the first to win a medal for Georgia. He defeated his Hungarian competitor in men’s 66 kg category, winning gold.

Revaz Lashkhi, 24, won silver in men’s 60kg Greco-Roman wrestling after competing with Omid Haji Noroozi from Iran.

Vladimer Khinchegashvili 21 competed with Dzhamal Otarsultanov from Russia in men’s 55kg freestyle wrestling, achieving a silver medal.

After this match, the Georgian delegation protested the results, which was followed by disqualification of all three judges from the London Olympics, but the results didn’t change.

In the last seconds of the second period during the competition with Dzhamal Otarsultanov, the Georgian sportsman performed an action, but the judges granted points to the Russian sportsman, despite immediate protest of the Georgians. If they judges would have given points to Georgian sportsman then there should have been the third period of their competition. Representatives of Georgian Olympic Committee say Khinchegashvili really had opportunity to win gold medal, however the judges robbed him of this chance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biTQbDrb9AM

Davit Modzmanashvili 25 won silver medal after competing with Artur Taymazov in men’s 120kg freestyle.

Manuchar Tskhadaia 27 won bronze medal after defeating Steeve Guenot from France in men’s 66 kg Greco-Roman wrestling.

Dato Marsagishvili 21 also won bronze medal after defeating his Iranian opponent in men’s 84kg freestyle wrestling and George Gogshelidze 32 defeated Khetag Gazyumov from Azerbaijan under men’s 96kg freestyle winning bronze medal.

Georgia shares 39th place with Mexico in the medal table of London Olympics 2012.

Georgian sportsmen won three gold and three bronze medals in Beijing Olympics of 2008, which took place when there was Russian-Georgian war in August. Country held 27th place then. In 2004 Georgians won two gold and two silver medals with 32th place in the list.
