TBILISI, June 1 – A 42-year-old woman has been detained after her young son was killed in Bolnisi, a town in southern Georgia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said Monday.
According to information reported by Interpressnews, relying on TV Pirveli, the woman allegedly wounded the child with scissors in the chest area. Locals said the boy was eight years old and that other young children were also inside the house at the time.
One local resident told TV Pirveli that neighbors learned about the killing during the night.
“Last night we heard that our neighbor killed her child with scissors. Apart from the killed child, her other minor children were also in the house. As I heard, in front of them she took scissors from the kitchen and stabbed the eight-year-old in the heart,” the resident said.
Another local resident said people in the area were talking about the woman possibly having mental health problems, though the resident said they had not personally noticed anything unusual.
“They say she had mental problems, though personally I had not noticed anything like that. He was a very good child, I don’t know why she killed him,” the resident said.
The same resident said neighbors were told that after the child was wounded, the mother allegedly tried to kill herself and inflicted several knife wounds on herself.
The woman has been arrested, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The is being investigated as intentional murder under aggravating circumstances.
