Suspect in Girgvliani murder avoids jail time after plea deal

TBILISI, DFWatch–A court in Tbilisi has offered one of the suspects in the Girgvliani murder a plea bargain, after he pleaded guilty more than a week ago.

Oleg Melnikov, former Interior Ministry official, recently admitted guilt in the murder of Sandro Girgvliani in 2006.

26,000 passed university entrance exams in Georgia

TBILISI, DFWatch–More than 26,000 candidates have been accepted as students this year, according to the head of Georgia’s National Exam Center.

Maia Miminoshvili told journalists that about 35,500 entrants took their test exams this year, but 9,000 failed to pass.
