28-year-old man found dead in Tusheti

TBILISI, July 25 – A 28-year-old man who went missing in Georgia’s mountainous Tusheti region has been found dead near a river, Interpressnews reported Saturday.

The body of Avto Markhvaidze, a resident of the village of Kvemo Alvani in Akhmeta municipality, was found in the Gometsari valley, near the village of Beghela.

According to relatives, Markhvaidze had gone to Tusheti several days earlier to attend a local religious or village celebration, but never reached the destination. A search was launched after he failed to arrive.

Relatives and others had been looking for him for several days before his body was found near the river.

Tusheti is one of Georgia’s most inaccessible mountain regions, located in the country’s northeast.
