TBILISI, DFWatch — Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili hopes to meet with the Russian leaders Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev in the future.

Recently Georgia’s special representative for Russian relations met the deputy foreign minister of Russia in Geneva. At a press conference in connection with a visit by 21 foreign reporters Tuesday, Ivanishvili was asked if he had any plans to meet the Russian President or Prime Minister.

Bidzina Ivanishvili said there is no such plan.

“I hope it will happen in the future. What’s important, there has taken place a first meeting between representatives of Georgia’s prime minister and the Russian president,” he said, adding that topics at the meeting were trade and cultural relations, as well as restoration of regular flights between the two countries.

The prime minister remarked that it is still unknown when the next meeting will be held but Zurab Abashidze and Grigory Karasin are in ‘intense’ contact by phone.

“We hope the process will continue and we’ll be able to improve relations with Russia. It means restoration of territorial integrity and everything which belongs to Georgia by law. All our steps will be transparent,” he added.
