TBILISI, DFWatch–As the Georgian government is waiting to hear what ideas experts from the IMF have to deal with the weakened national currency, the lari, the former ruling party will be demanding answers at a special session of parliament on Saturday.

President Margvelashvili met with the economy minister and finance minister on Wednesday and asked them to come up with a plan by March 5.

That date was not picked at random; it is the day after the visiting experts from the IMF have left. Margvelashvili said he thinks it is convenient to give ministers such a deadline.

He said that economic group of ministers is intensively working with the IMF mission which is now in Georgia, and as soon as the mission leaves the ministers will present their plans for the short term and medium term to stabilize the lari.

But the National Movement demands that the PM and economy ministers come to parliament and answer questions already on Saturday.

The president was against the extraordinary session, but Georgian legislation gives parliament the right to schedule special sessions even when the president is against it.
