TBILISI, DFWatch – The Georgian president says Georgia already is the biggest trade hub in the Caucasus region and that the construction of Europe’s biggest shopping center is just completed here.

He made this statement during his speech at Georgetown University in Washington.

President Mikheil Saakashvili didn’t specify which shopping center he meant. The biggest known shopping center in the European Union is located in London: Westfield Stratford City in London, which opened in 2011 and has 300 shops, 70 restaurants, 14 cinemas, 3 hotels and the biggest casino in Great Britain.

But Saakashvili talked about the car trade and stated that plenty of people come to Georgia to buy a car, because procedures connected with it is simpler and it only takes a few minutes.

According to the president’s statement, even though Georgia doesn’t have gas or oil, the government plans to build new cities, airports, railways, high-speed trains and highways in every direction.

“When I came here, I saw a photo of my friend, the Emir of Qatar. Doha is a beautiful city and some of our cities are becoming like that, but the little difference is that we almost don’t have gas. That’s what free enterprise can do, which brought me to USA,” Saakashvili said.

He said that a few days ago he had good meeting with President Obama, who publicly, in front of the TV cameras, named Georgia as a model for the whole region, in the direction of democratic reforms and economic success.

“It’s a pleasure to hear it from president and not only from him. The Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed it. Yesterday I met with the senators and all of them say the same. Marco Rubio said that we are an example model for the whole region; Senator McCain recently remarked that he felt himself Georgian, he can possibly be. But the main thing here is that we all went through this,” Saakashvili said.
