TBILISI, DFWatch–Police in Georgia have arrested a person accused of shooting and injuring two persons at a political rally in Gori on October 2.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), investigators have determined that the suspect fired shots during the meeting, wounding two persons, and then ran away.
The shooting took place during an election campaign event by former Defense Minister and majoritarian candidate for parliament Irakli Okruashvili.
The accused turned himself in to the Shida Kartli police department. He was arrested, and according to the police, he admitted guilt.
MIA wrote in a statement that the suspect has prior convictions.
The case is being investigated as attempted murder and illegal purchase and carrying of a weapon.
The Prosecutor General’s Office will ask the court to place the suspect in pre-trial detention.
