TBILISI, DFWatch–Lika Lortkipanidze was released from administrative detention after serving a 12-day administrative sentence for allegedly insulting a ruling party MP during a protest.

According to Interpressnews, the incident took place on 17 May in a café. Lortkipanidze and fellow activists confronted Georgian Dream (GD) lawmaker Mariam Lashkhi with chants including “Down with the Russian regime” and “Freedom to political prisoners”. Lashkhi was accompanied by her children at the time and filed a complaint.

Upon release, Lortkipanidze denounced her detention as politically motivated, calling it an attempt to intimidate dissenters. “They want to scare us, but instead they fuel more resistance,” she told journalists.

The case has sparked criticism from civil society groups, who view such detentions as part of a broader crackdown on protest rights amid growing tensions between the GD government and pro-democracy activists. Another activist, Tatia Apriamashvili, received a similar 12-day sentence for the same incident.
