TBILISI, August 9 – Georgian prosecutors have charged two drivers over a crash at an unauthorized car race in eastern Georgia that left a minor dead and several other people injured.
The incident happened on April 30 on a road near the village of Sanavardo in Kvareli municipality, prosecutors said on Sunday.
Investigators believe an improvised car race had been organized on a road in the eastern Georgia town, Interpressnews reported.
Prosecutors said one of the vehicles was taking part in the race, while the second had arrived at the scene so its occupants could watch.
The two drivers allegedly failed to operate their vehicles safely and collided.
Passengers in the second car were injured, and one of them, a minor, later died from the injuries.
Both drivers were detained under court orders, as prosecutors seek pre-trial detention for the two.
The charges can lead to up to seven years of prison.
