TBILISI, October 7 – A section of the road between Vaziani and Telavi via Gombori remained closed to all traffic on Wednesday after a rockfall blocked the route overnight, Georgia’s Roads Department said.
Crews are working to clear the affected area and restore traffic as soon as possible, according to the Roads Department.
The rockfall happened during the night of October 6-7. Representatives of the department and a contractor are at the site, with special equipment deployed for the clearance work.
The affected stretch of road is still closed for all types of vehicles. The department also said a tender has already been announced for work upgrading the first 26 kilometers of the Vaziani-Gombori-Telavi road.
The project will cover 26.5 kilometers and include special works at the landslide-prone section in the currently closed section. The department said those measures are intended to resolve the existing problem at the site.
