TBILISI, DFWatch–A 33-year-old has worker after a shaft ceiling collapsed following a micro blast in the coal mine in Tkibuli, a town in western Georgia.

According to Valeri Kukhalashvili, Director General of Sakhnakhshiri GIG Ltd, which owns the coal mines in Tkibuli, the incident took place early Sunday morning. Emergency service workers managed to get Levan Meparidze out of the rubble soon after the incident, but he died on the way to the hospital.

Temur Chubinidze from Tkibuli municipality told Rustavi 2 that two workers were trapped under the rubble in the incident. The other one had bodily injuries.

Sakhnakshiri GIG has started an internal review of the incident and promised to publish the results within ten days.

Local police have launched their own investigation in the case.
