TBILISI, July 28 – Supporters gathered Monday evening to show support for ten people who were detained Sunday outside Tbilisi City Assembly, on Freedom Square in central Tbilisi.
The ten who were detained Sunday, were charged with petty hooliganism and resisting law enforcement based on administrative law, a fast track public order mechanism based on Soviet law. One of them was holding up a poster with an obscene message about Bidzina Ivanishvili, founder of the governing Georgian Dream party.
When supporters returned to the assembly building to show support for the ten Monday evening, Nodar Tsitsriashvili was detained by police.
Head of Tbilisi’s main police department Goga Memanishvili, who was present at the protest, and was confronted by a journalist from TV Pirveli, about the previous day’s police action.
The journalist suggested that one named police officer had been violent toward a protester during their arrest.
“If you think this is a violation, contact the relevant agency. If it is determined that there was any kind of misconduct on the part of the police, then go ahead and report it, and appropriate action will be taken,” Memanishvili answered, according to Interpressnews.
The protesters later walked to the parliament building, where the protest continued, the agency reported.
