
TBILISI, February 6 – Two Georgian Dream officials met briefly with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday, in connection with the 2026 Winter Olympics.
According to a statement from the administration of the Georgian president, Mikheil Kavelashvili, he and Georgia’s foreign minister, Maka Bochorishvili, met Vance and Rubio while attending a reception organized to mark the opening of the Winter Games in Italy.
The meeting took place at a gathering hosted by Kirsty Coventry, where Kavelashvili and Bochorishvili also spoke with leaders from other countries, the Georgian administration said. During the conversations, attention was placed on shared values between Georgia and the United States.
Kavelashvili is also scheduled to attend a dinner hosted by Sergio Mattarella in honor of foreign heads of state attending the opening ceremony of the 25th Winter Olympic Games.
Georgian political figures, both in government and opposition, continue to vie for Washington’s support following the election of Donald Trump to his second term as president.
