TBILISI, September 30 – Georgia’s draft 2027 state budget would raise public sector salaries, pensions and spending on health and education.
The base salary used in the public sector would rise to 1,735 lari next year, lifting salaries for public employees by up to 8.4%. The overall public-sector wage bill would increase by 395 million lari.
The Finance Ministry said that under existing law, the base salary increase is linked to wage growth in the private sector during the previous four quarters.
Pension spending would increase by 555 million lari.
Under the current indexation formula, monthly pensions for people aged 70 and over would rise by 60 lari to 555 lari. In high-mountain settlements, the amount would exceed 665 lari.
For pensioners under 70, the monthly payment would rise by 20 lari to 390 lari, or 468 lari in high-mountain areas.
Social payments for people with disabilities would also rise, with an additional 60 million lari allocated for indexation.
Healthcare programs would receive more than 127 million lari in additional funding. The draft includes salary increases for ambulance staff as well as rural doctors and nurses. Funding for social rehabilitation and child-care programs would rise by more than 26 million lari.
Education spending would increase by 400 million lari. The additional money would cover higher salaries for public-school teachers, administrative staff and kindergarten workers. The budget also includes funding for free tuition at state universities as part of higher-education reform.
Other increases include 90 million lari for environmental protection and agriculture programs, 50 million lari for sports federations and 269 million lari for other state programs and municipal services.
