TBILISI, DFWatch–At the latest IPRM meeting, Georgian officials “strongly demanded the punishment of the representative(s) of the Russian occupation forces” responsible for the 2023 killing of Georgian citizen Tamaz Ginturi.
According to Georgia’s State Security Service, Tbilisi also reiterated demands for “the release of all persons held in illegal detention” and condemned new “illegal borderization incidents.”
The demands were put forth at the latest meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM), held in Ergneti.
Participants also addressed humanitarian concerns, including access to water.
This was the 126th meeting of this kind and as usual it brought together Georgian and de facto South Ossetian representatives, and was co-facilitated by the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) and the OSCE. The mechanism was established after the 2008 South Ossetia War and aims to defuse tensions and solve practical problems.
The EUMM and OSCE expressed concern over “the continuous practice of detentions” and restrictions on movement, especially during summer when many spend time visiting their family.
The co-facilitators “encouraged practical cooperation” to ensure local communities on both sides of the boundary can access irrigation and wastewater systems during the dry season.
The next IPRM meeting is scheduled for 29 September 2025.
