TBILISI, January 16 – Georgia won its first European Championship gold medal in figure skating on Friday as Luka Berulava and Anastasia Metelkina topped the podium in the pairs event at the European Figure Skating Championships currently ongoing in the UK.

According to Georgia’s Ministry of Sport, Berulava and Metelkina led the field after both segments of the competition. They scored 75.96 points in the short program and followed with 139.80 points in the free skate, finishing with a combined total of 215.76 points to secure the European title.

The win marks a historic milestone for Georgian figure skating. It is the country’s first gold medal at the European Championships in pair skating and completes a full set of European medals for the duo, who won silver in 2024 and bronze in 2025.

Metelkina, who was born in Russia and now competes for Georgia, has been skating with Berulava since 2023. The pair has quickly risen to the top of European and international competition, building on strong results at junior and senior levels. They are two-time World Junior champions and have collected multiple medals on the Grand Prix circuit.

On the same competition day, Georgian skater Nika Egadze won gold in the men’s short program, Interpressnews reports.
