Tbilisi, DFWatch – Natural gas distribution company in Tbilisi, KazTransGaz, issued an official statement on Wednesday calming down residents scared by an intense odour in their apartments.
Odour comes from special odorant, not a natural gas itself, as the latter has no odour, KazTransGaz states. Odorant is being added to the natual gas in order to prevent its leakage.
Tbilisi residents have begun noting a specific smell sinse Wednesday morning and in hundreds started calling emergency service. Altogether, it received over 3,000 telephone calls on the subject by midday, IPN reports.
KazTransGaz states the odorant is absolutely safe and its addition is required by the law.
The problem is not the smell, but the fact that it can be smelled–which means, gas is leaking into the air.
