TBILISI, August 29 – Georgian police have arrested a foreign national in connection with the death of Abkhaz blogger Daur Buava.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said Saturday that Buava and the suspect were friends and had been spending time together at the apartment where Buava was staying in the Didi Dighomi district of Tbilisi.
According to investigators, the two used a narcotic substance at the apartment and both subsequently became unwell.
Police said questioning of the suspect indicated that Buava was critically ill and in a life-threatening condition when the other person left the apartment.
The suspect allegedly locked the apartment door from the outside using a second key and left without notifying anyone about what had happened or seeking help for Buava, according to the ministry, Interpressnews reported.
The detainee is suspected of, and charged with, abandoning the blogger while he was in grave danger.
