TBILISI, July 25 – A Georgian consumer group is warning the public about what it describes as a new pyramid-style scheme using fake job offers and promises of easy income.
The non-governmental organization Society and Banks said Saturday that a company called PCDAI has been active on social media, offering people future employment and income after they invest money, Interpressnews reported.
According to the group, users are asked to register on a so-called platform, where personal accounts are created for them. They are then asked to deposit money. Society and Banks said the amounts seen so far include 180, 875, 2,000 and 3,000 GEL.
The group claims the scheme paid users daily returns at first, in order to convince them that their investments were working. After some time, the people behind the platform disappeared, according to the warning.
Society and Banks said the alleged scheme then continued in another form. It claims already deceived users were contacted again and told that the platform had only suffered a technical problem. They were allegedly encouraged to keep investing in order to recover their money.
Interpressnews‘s report does not include a response from PCDAI or anyone representing the company. Georgian media have repeated Society and Banks’s warning, but have not included any response from PCDAI addressing the allegations. It is unclear whether police, prosecutors or financial regulators have looked into the allegations at publication time.
