De facto president hints Abkhazia might pull out of Geneva talks

raul_khajimbaTBILISI, DFWatch–Abkhazia’s de facto government may pull out of the only format of negotiations between Georgia, Russia and the two breakaway regions Abkhazia and South Ossetia, de facto Abkhaz president Raul Khajimba warned on Tuesday.

The former KGB officer said the Geneva talks are useless and have done nothing positive for the ‘country’, meaning that the negotiations have done little to further the breakaway authorities’ goal of international recognition.

“Discussions themselves do not bring anything positive to Abkhazia,” Khajimba stated. “We are supported in humanitarian projects, but when we propose that we are human beings and we have the same rights that you care about… so why these rights do not apply to us? Why can’t our athletes and artists travel safely beyond Abkhazia and visit a particular country?”
