TBILISI, DFWatch–The body of a German man who has been missing since July was found Thursday in Svaneti, a mountainous region in northwest of Georgia.
Sergei Smislov’s family has been looking for him for several months, believing that he was kidnapped in order to demand a ransom. Smislov was in charge of installing water pipes in Mestia, Svaneti.
The 65-year-old’s body was found inside his car in the village Luha in Enguri valley. His personal items were also in the car.
The cause of death is not known. The body has been sent for an autopsy.
Smislov ran a construction company. He came to Georgia three years ago to work on the water supply in Mestia. His contract ended in July and he was planning to return to Germany.
