TBILISI, September 25 – A tense scene unfolded at the Holiday Inn in Tbilisi on Thursday, as a man locked himself inside a hotel room, threatened staff, and was ultimately taken into custody by police.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, officers rushed to the scene after an emergency call reported possible gunfire from one of the rooms. When they arrived, they found a man barricaded inside who was making death threats against hotel staff.
Police, including patrol, criminal, and special forces units, surrounded the room and managed to detain him without further incident. Authorities confirmed he was alone in the room at the time.
Hotel representatives told Interpressnews that the guest had refused to leave after his checkout time, resisted security staff, and forced them to call the police. Anastasia Zurabishvili of Adjara Group, which manages the hotel, said, “the guest was in the room alone, he did not come out, resisted security, and police were called.”
One foreign guest who witnessed the incident said they saw police detain the man but did not hear any shots fired.
The Interior Ministry has opened a criminal investigation under articles covering illegal possession of a firearm and making threats. If convicted, the suspect could face prison time.
