TBILISI, DFWatch – An independent commentator in Georgia suspects there was installed surveillance equipment in his flat.
Gia Khukhashvili yesterday told journalists his neighbor from upstairs discovered a listening device and informed him.
“I haven’t seen it myself but probably this is a listening device which was installed in my flat by drilling through the floor from my neighbor’s apartment.”
Police arrived at the place yesterday evening and started investigating.
The Interior Ministry only tells Interpressnews that the case is being studied and the ministry will release more information later.
Khukhashvili is a frequent commentator on opposition-friendly Maestro TV. He is one of the analysts at the Georgian Development Research Institute, which is funded by opposition billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili. But he has defended his integrity and declined an offer to become one of Ivanishvili’s advisors after the latter went into politics in 2011.
Khukhashvili joked about what the government possibly could get out of installating the device there.
“I live in my flat together with my dog and when I come, I only sleep. There are too versions, I might have told anything while sleeping, or my dog has suspicious connections. My dog visits Bidzina Ivanishvili’s dog three times a week and enjoys time and probably they installed listening devices because of the dogs’ relations.”
He says they wouldn’t have been able to hear anything different from what he says on TV, as he lives alone.
