TBILISI, DFWatch–772,216 people visited Georgia in August, which is 0.5 percent less than in August 2013.
The new statistics published by the Interior Ministry shows that 3,685,834 people visited Georgia in the first eight months of 2014. This is a 3 percent drop compared to the first eight months the year before.
In the monthly visitor statistics, are categorized into tourists, transit travel and other purposes. 1,556,646 people who visited Georgia in the first eight months of 2014 were tourists; 12 percent more than last year.
698,284 people used Georgia as a transit country; 10 percent less than last year, while 1,420,904 people came here for other purposes; 0.7 percent more than last year.
In August, the highest number of visitors came from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia and Ukraine.
