TBILISI, DFWatch – Georgia’s Central Election Commission says 54 963 Georgians abroad have registered to vote at their country’s embassy.

The list doesn’t contain citizens who live in Russia or in countries where there are less than 20 Georgians living.

42 613 out of this number will have the right to vote in parliamentary election. 1 409 have registered at the consular offices.

CEC Thursday announced that five additional election precincts will be set up in Barcelona, Spain; Ottawa, Canada; Dublin, Ireland; Budapest, Hungary; and Lisbon, Portugal. This follows complaints from Georgians abroad that the existing election precints were insufficient. Currently there are 42 precincts outside Georgia.

Emigrants also complained about the date of the election as it is on a Monday — a working day. Non-government organizations also asked CEC to change the date for emigrants, but the Commission only prolonged the registration date for them.
