TBILISI, DFWatch–Prosecutors in Georgia are searching for another suspect in the investigation into the murder of a human rights activists seven months ago.

As the trial of a man suspected of murdering Iuri Vazagashvili continued Thursday, a lawyer representing the defendant Gia Sosanashvili said that the Prosecutor General’s Office is looking for another murder suspect in the U.S. and France.

The lawyer, Lasha Tskvitaria, said that DNA traces of another person than Sosanashvili were found on a piece of the explosive that was used when Vazagashvili was killed on the grave of his own son, who died in a police operation in 2006.

Prosecutor, however, said most of the DNA traces on the explosive belongs to Sosanashvili, but there are traces of another person as well.

“It was determined that in the period leading up to the explosion, Sosanashvili had a phone conversation with [someone in] the U.S. and France. Investigators questioned everyone Sosanashvili had contact with inside Georgia,” the prosecutor added.

The court will question prosecution witnesses on Thursday.
