TBILISI, DFWatch–The National Food Agency warns against buying and eating many semi-processed food products after finding that they are contaminated by listeria and salmonella.

The agency warns against semi-processed food products from the following companies: Racha Ltd, Gio Ltd, Progresi Alvani Ltd and Pino Ltd.

The agency specifically warns against dumplings and khinkali, a Georgian dish.

After checks, bacteria of a type called Listeria monocytogenes were found. These are dangerous especially for children and pregnant women.

Salmonella was discovered in dumplings produced by Pino Ltd. Salmonella is a type of bacteria that is harmful to different organs in the human body and can cause salmonellosis.

As mandated by law, all companies whose products were found to be contaminated were fined 1,000 laris (about USD 500) each and their production have been suspended unless they inspect each of the raw materials used to produce their products.

The National Food Agency will now examine those products.
