TBILISI, DFWatch–Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States, is visiting Georgia September 13-16.

The Vatican’s Section for Relations with States corresponds to the foreign ministry of civil governments.

According to Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mamberti will meet with representatives of the executive and legislative governments, and with Patriarch Ilia II. The visit will start with a joint press conference with Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze.

Mamberti will also visit Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University to meet with students there.

He will further meet with the president, prime minister and speaker of parliament.

In the next few days he will go on a trip to see Mtskheta, a town close to the capital, and the Jvari monastery there, as well as Svetitskhoveli; two of the most well-known religious sites in Georgia.

This is Mamberti’s first visit to Georgia. It is important to further strengthen relations with the Vatican, Georgia’s Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement.
