TBILISI, DFWatch–A 32-year-old transgender woman was Friday evening severely beaten in Ortachala, a district in the south of Tbilisi.

According to Imedi TV, there were two assailants. Her throat was slit.

She remains in the emergency ward in a serious condition, with injuries to her throat and broken facial bones.

Lawyer Giorgi Tatishvili told Imedi TV that the attack was motivated by the victim’s gender identity.

An investigation was opened for attempted murder. No one has been detained yet, but one suspect has been identified.
