TBILISI, DFWatch–Tbilisi City Court on Monday placed the suspect in the murder of Yuri Vazagashvili in pre-trial detention.
The Prosecutor’s Office asked to keep the policeman in detention. He was detained yesterday, suspected of murdering Vazagashvili.
The suspect pleaded not guilty.
If convicted, he may be imprisoned for up to 14 years.
Yuri Vazagashvili had been campaigning for justice for his son Zurab, who was killed in a police operation in 2006 during the Saakashvili regime. When there was a change of power in late 2012, he asked for a new investigation.
He died January 20 by an explosion on the grave of his son in the village Karapila. He was there to attend the funeral of a neighbor and stopped by his son’s grave when the explosion went off.
