TBILISI, DFWatch – Four Russian climbers have been rescued from Svaneti, a mountain region north in Georgia adjacent to the greater Caucasus range.

The four were found after a two days search, in an area cut off by a rockslide.

One of the climbers had injured a leg, and received medical assistance.

The Russian foreign ministry today published a statement which thanked the Georgian rescue team.

“According to the Russian Interests Section in Tbilisi, the status of all our citizens are well. With appreciation, we note the effective actions of the Georgian rescuers,” the Russian foreign ministry writes.

The Russian interests section is Russia’s only diplomatic presence in Tbilisi. It is formally a part of Switzerland’s embassy.
